Hearing To Ban Boom Cars in St. Louis

There was a public hearing on Board Bills 81 and 82 to allow St. Louis police to ban booming and confiscate boom cars, also making it illegal to sell or install boom car equipment. This is the most progressive legislation against booming to date and could serve as model legislation for the rest of the country if the law is passed.

St. Louis Considers Banning Boom Cars

In January 2005, the Board of Aldermen passed an ordinance that prohibits the use and installation of certain car audio systems intended to blast excessive noise. The legislation, if signed into law by Mayor Francis Slay, would allow police to seize cars in violation of the law. The bill would ban car stereo equipment with speakers that exceed 12" in diameter, more than one speaker exceeding 10" in diameter, more than ten speakers, more than two amplifiers, or an amplifier rated over 300 watts.
