In Australia, police have cracked down on car hoons at an industrial estate in Campbellfield, fining people and impounding cars. It seems the term "hoons" is used in Australia and New Zealand to describe young male motorists who do speeding, burnouts, doughnuts, screeching tires or racing on public streets.

Glad to see that the police in Australia have the moxie to impound some of those hoonmobiles. In the TV report, one hoon said that he did not think he was breaking the law. Another one said that he knew he was breaking the law but it wasn't hurting anybody. The fact is, they were breaking the law and disturbing the peace, and that does hurt people. The hoons need to be taught a lesson in civics and manners. And judging by the attitudes they displayed in this report, that lesson will not hit home unless they feel a little pain. That sort of nonsense must be nipped in the bud. By all means, impound the cars if that's what it takes. We could use a lot more of that remedy here in the US.
